Rosewood mahogany is a well-loved and proven method of protecting and preserving wood outdoors. Traditionally, it has been used for piers, boats, gates, panels, fences, but also works excellently for other wooden surfaces that are exposed to the elements all year round. Roslag mahogany is also called boat grease or brewer's grease.
Recipe:
- 1 part wood tar
- 1 part raw cold-pressedlinseed oil
- 1 part balsamic turpentine
Advantages:
- Protects wood against moisture
- Gives a nice glossy surface with the feeling of wood remaining
- Can be used on various types of wood, including pressure impregnated
- Possibility to pigment for different shades
Use:
Apply the mixture evenly to the wooden surface. The drying time varies depending on weather conditions, from a few days up to a couple of weeks.
Tip:
- Try adding pigments to create different colors, e.g. red for weatherboards or black for a darker look on new or older wood.
- Roslag mahogany also works as rust protection on iron parts.
