You can paint with egg oil tempera on most indoor surfaces, such as wood, plaster, rag paper, wallpapered walls, and even on previously painted surfaces. The paint adheres best to clean wood but also works well over linseed oil paint and modern water- or oil-based paints. Make sure to wash and roughen the previously painted surface before you start painting.

For best results, follow these steps:

1. Thoroughly clean the surface from dirt and dust.
2. Lightly sand the surface to create a smooth and clean area.
3. Remove all sanding dust and wipe the surface with a damp cloth.
4. On absorbent substrates like rag paper, first prime generously with wallpaper paste or cellulose glue.
5. On plaster or clay lining, thoroughly wet the surface with water and then paint on the wet surface.
6. On wooden surfaces, shellac knots before painting.

The drying time for egg oil tempera varies depending on temperature, light, and air circulation. Generally, it takes 12-24 hours for the paint to dry at room temperature. It is important to wait until the paint is completely dry before applying additional coats or painting details.

Choosing the right color is important to create a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere. Here are some tips:

• Start by selecting a base paint that you like and that suits your home.
• Use sample cards to see how the colors look in different lighting and how they work together.
• Mix warm and cool colors for more contrast and life. Nearby shades in the same paint series create nice harmony.
• Consider the proportions - a 60-30-10 rule with a dominant color, secondary color, and accent color can work well.
• Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what fits your personal style.

Although egg oil tempera is popular for its durability and environmentally friendly properties, it is not suitable for outdoor use or for people with egg allergies. But no worries, there is a smart solution: Replace the eggs with chickpea brine! This adjustment makes the paint accessible to vegans and those with egg allergies, without compromising on quality.

Linseed oil paint has several advantages:

• Durable and resistant to wear and weather
• Natural ingredients make it environmentally friendly
• Good color fastness with minimal fading
• Easy to maintain and refresh
• Good adhesion on most surfaces

Linseed oil paint is excellent for painting wood surfaces due to its ability to penetrate and protect the wood against moisture and rot. This makes it perfect for facades, windows, doors, fences, and outdoor wooden furniture.

Besides wood, linseed oil paint can also be applied to:

• Plaster: Especially suitable for surfaces exposed to wear, such as baseboards and columns.
• Sheet metal and metal: Requires a rust-protective primer first.
• Stone: Historically used to imitate expensive types of stone.

Regardless of the substrate, make sure the surface is dry and free from previous paint flakes. Careful preparation and appropriate application are key to a successful result!

• Use a brush with stiff bristles, preferably an oval or round brush made of genuine hog bristle.
• Apply the paint in thin, even coats. Several thin coats give better results than one thick coat.
• Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next, usually 1-2 days.
• Indoors: 2-3 coats on untreated surfaces. Outdoors: 3 coats with different thinning.

• Glazing: Apply transparent paint over another color for depth and dimension.
• Brushstrokes: Vary pressure and brush size for different textures.
• Dragging: Pull a dry brush over wet paint for texture and movement.
• Frottage: Press patterned material against wet paint and lift off for unique effects.
