Gray umber consists mostly of chalk colored with a little iron oxide black, hardly appears in older descriptions but is an excellent pigment for achieving the light gray colors of the early 19th century. Used on the recommendation of the National Antiquities Office in linseed oil paint. Cropped=mixed with chalk. Miscible = OVCK
