Eldfast Clay for Iron Stoves

Clay and iron filings for insulation of cast iron stoves. The kit is sufficient for a large cast iron stove and only water needs to be added. 2 bags of clay, 1 bag of iron filings. Total approx. 5 kg.

Why is fireproof clay mortar needed for cast iron stoves?

In cast iron stoves, the ceiling of the oven section needs to be covered with clay mortar to provide more even heat in the oven and to prevent the heat from rising and falling too quickly when firing. The clay mortar is also necessary to prevent the stove from cracking during intense firing. In old cast iron stoves, one usually only sees remnants of this insulation in the form of a gravel layer on top of the oven. Fireproof clay mortar should only be laid on top of the oven ceiling.
