"The goal was a peaceful house with traditional elements, and to let the nature outside take center stage." - Anton

Welcome to our newly built summer house by Hjälmaren. The goal was a peaceful addition to the family's summer house for the next generation. The focus on sustainability and a natural feel made the choice to paint with Egg Oil Tempera and Linseed Oil Paint obvious. The color scheme, combined with traditional details, became effective tools for creating the atmosphere we aimed for.

What was the goal of building the house?

As the family grew, more space was needed in the summer house to continue allowing it to be the gathering place in the summer for the next generation. With children and grandchildren spread across Sweden and the world, the 7+ new sleeping places in the house provide the opportunity for several families to spend time here simultaneously.

What were your thoughts when you chose colors?

The goal was for the whole to fit nicely with both the surrounding nature and the main house, so the color choices were important. From the gray-green walls in the main room that provide a calm feeling with a focus on the window section, to the project of combining colors with the wallpapers in the bedrooms. The coloring was truly a creative process, and we are so pleased with the results.

Why did you choose to paint with Egg yolk tempera, Linseed oil Slamm paint?

We wanted to give the house a natural feel, and the Egg yolk tempera's matte luster became perfect. The colors are also very vibrant and shift beautifully in different shades depending on the light intake. The facade in Gysinge gray Slamm paint and Linseed oil paint on the windows, doors, and the toilet also matched perfectly with the traditional style we aimed for.

How did you achieve a traditional style in a newly built house?

We were very pleased with the reused the red doors we installed. They provided exactly the older and more traditional feel we were looking for without feeling out of place. The choices of details such as fittings, electricity, and traditional-style furnishings further contributed to the atmosphere we wanted. The details felt important throughout the construction process in everything from timber and color choices to smaller interior details.

Main room with nature in focus

Main room with nature in focus

Directly inside the entrance, one is met by the large window section in the main room. To not take too much attention away from the view over the sheep pen and the water, the green-gray color Pärlemorgrå 9-604 was chosen for the walls. A light color that contributes to a calm feeling in the room. The view is framed by the red windows in 100% Bränd Terra and moldings/frames in S2502-Y.

The ceiling was also painted in the Pärlemorgrå series to create harmony, but two shades lighter and in glaze, which makes it still stand out clearly, giving a more airy feeling.

The colors in the bedrooms are based on the wallpapers. In the first, the wallpaper Foxglove from Boråstapeter is combined with the wall and bunk bed in Bergslagsgrön 5-620. The slightly greener color than the main room goes well with the details in the wallpaper and the older red door to the bedroom that recurs in the house.

In the second bedroom, we opted for a darker, cozier feel. Floral wallpaper here as well (Dahlia Garden from Boråstapeter) which is combined with Nedtonad Kopparbrun 6-432.

Details in traditional style

Details in traditional style

To achieve the traditional, older style we were aiming for, the details became important. Fittings such as chamber locks, door knobs and key plates on the reused classic red doors.

In many other choices such as electricity, interior and decoration, the traditional style was maintained to create a common thread throughout the house.
