Ultramarine blue..! this magical pigment. Originally made from the semi-precious stone "Lapis lazuli" mined over the centuries in Afghanistan, then transported to Egypt and on to Europe, hence the name Ultramarine which literally means "over the sea". It was a very precious pigment that was even compared to gold. Around 1830, it was discovered how to produce the pigment in an industrial (synthetic) way, which caused the price to drop drastically, and at the end of the 19th century it became popular to use the "fine" pigment for interior painting, on wallpaper, etc. Miscible = OV(CK)
